In the early nineties I worked with teen counselors at a church camp. I pulled out my Swiss Army Knife (a Recruit) to do something one day and was greeted with choruses of "He's got a MacGyver knife." My credibility rose immediately. I had never heard it called that, though I had seen bits and pieces of the show. The MacGyver knife was used often during that setting and always got a response from the young people. I wonder how many now have and use their own.
Fortunately I never had to disarm a bomb or make an iron lung out of scrap metal.
