I was raised in a non-knife family, the only knives in the house were kitchen knives, even those were incredibly dull. Both of my parents were raised the same way. Neither one of them had a knife phobia, but were wary of them. So, when I was 13, I went to the local target, I then bought a Victorinox Spartan, and loved it. My dad, on the other hand, didn't. After a long discussion, my mother convinced my dad to let me keep it. By the next year, every one of my family members had a Swiss tool. I now have 5 V-noxs that are in rotation for my every day carry. My dad thanked me for buying him one the next week, after he used it to dissasemble a chair at his office.
